UNAA AT THE UGANDA ELECTORAL COMMISSION!!!
Dear UNAA Membership and Diaspora at Large,
We were honored to meet the Uganda Electoral Chairperson Justice Byabakama and his team today at the EC Headquarters together with the UNAA Executive Secretary Mr. Lambert Etibot, UNAA Special Envoy Mr Kizza Seninde, and UNAA Member Mr Nicholas Kalanzi.
The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the Ugandan EC’s preparations for the Diaspora as we look forward to the 2026 Ugandan elections and our role as potential voters in preparations for the 2026 electoral cycle.
The EC Chairperson assured us that they were already undertaking various measures in ensuring that Citizens in the Diaspora are able to vote in 2026 and that they also were identifying and proposing necessary amendments & pertinent electoral laws to ensure that this is realized.
We also discussed issues pertaining to mapping and logistical issues that are critical in ensuring that Diaspora citizens can access polling stations and how UNAA could work with all other stake holders such as NIRA, MOIA, MOFA etc. in making sure that this exercise is smoothly executed come 2026.
Therefore as we continue to engage the Ugandan EC, we will be sharing with you how that process enfolds.
We also would like to remind all those who are looking forward to participating in the 2026 elections that you have to be a registered Ugandan citizen to be able to cast that vote and must have a Ugandan National Identification.
Sincerely,
Henrietta Nairuba Wamala
President & CEO, UNAA on behalf of the Ugandan North American Association Leadership.
